Digital Media Portfolio
Welcome to the Weekly Reading page of my online Digital Media Portfolio. This page is pretty self-explanatory, as we have been given a different paper each week to read. Once we have read the paper, we then get together and discuss whether we liked or disliked the paper. This could be about any aspect of the paper, four example the content or layout. Below is a list of the papers that we've read so far;

-Circles and props - making unknown technology
-Annotated portfolios
-Taking our sweet time to search
-Overcoming procrastination with remind
-New media, new craft
-Distinguishing concepts lexicons of interactive art and architecture

Circles and props - making unknown technology
Kristina Anderson, Danielle Wilde

In my opinion, I thought that this paper was confusing at first but then became clearer as I read on. Some parts of the paper were really easy to read, and then some parts were really confusing and hard to understand. Making a unknown technology is a really interesting title attract readers to the article. I really enjoyed the paper and how it linked new technology with psychology. In the future, I will refer back to this paper as part of it is about coming up with new ideas.

Annotated portfolios
Bill Gaver, John Bowers

I thought that this paper was very long, and was one of the most difficult to read as it used language that I didn't understand. The photos look very interesting and makes the reader think how they work. The annotations for the images bring both design and theory together. Annotations are more interesting when they are short and snappy. The annotations are for designers as well as readers so that they can remind the designer when they look back at the portfolio. They can then make changes to the designs. It also makes the reader want to test the product.

Taking our sweet time to search
Marian Dörk, Peter Bennett, Rosamund Davies

I enjoyed reading this paper just as much as I enjoyed reading circles and props. I thought that the paper was well structured, well written and I like the fact that it's challenged something that can affect all of us, which was how we need to take our time to search and how we search in general.

Overcoming procrastination with remind
Matias laschke, Marc Hassenzahl

Some parts of this paper I enjoyed reading but there were some parts and I didn't really enjoy. Again this is probably down to my knowledge as some of the words I didn't understand. This meant that some parts of the paper didn't make sense, which is why I am still confused of what the paper is trying to tell us.

New media, new craft
Andrew Richardson

This paper examines the use of computer programming in relation to the practice and approach of traditional crafts, paying specific attention to the ethos of the arts and crafts movement as a model for assessing the use of status of computation and creative context. In order to consider the role of programming in the context of traditional craft, it is important to provide a brief outline relating to the ethos and practice craft.

Distinguishing concepts lexicons of interactive art and architecture
Usman Hacque

Interactive design has come about as a result of the intermingling of disciplines. As a consequence, the language it uses has become blurred, borrowed or stolen with little restraint from elsewhere. In particular times have come ubiquitous, the original concepts that lie behind them have been lost.
